SAPI LAKE TREK

8 Days

Sapi is a picturesque village located in the Kargil district of Ladakh, India, approximately 75 kilometers south of the district headquarters, Kargil.  Nestled at an elevation of about 4,600 meters, it is one of the highest settlements in the region.  The village is renowned for its pristine natural beauty, including alpine meadows, diverse flora, and the stunning Sapi Lake, also known as Norbu Tso.

Sapi Lake is a high-altitude glacial lake situated near the Gangchenmo glacier. The trek to the lake offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts.

The village’s remote location has preserved its traditional Ladakhi culture and lifestyle. Visitors often experience the warm hospitality of the locals, as exemplified by travelers who have been welcomed into villagers’ homes.

For those interested in exploring Sapi, the best time to visit is between May and September, when the weather is favorable for trekking and the alpine flora is in full bloom. Accommodations are limited, typically in the form of homestays, providing an authentic experience of Ladakhi village life.

To reach Sapi, travelers can embark on a scenic drive from Kargil, which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. The journey offers panoramic views of the rugged terrain and glimpses into the rich cultural tapestry of the region.

Sapi remains relatively untouched by mass tourism, offering a serene escape for those seeking tranquility and a connection with nature.
